North Carolina’s anti-LGBT law violates federal civil rights laws and must not be implemented, the US Department of Justice said in a letter to Governor Pat McCrory. The DOJ has given the state until May 9 to remedy the violations. The passing of the controversial HB2 bill, better known as the “bathroom bill,” has drawn national criticism from major business and celebrities who have protested the law.
